The Basel Framework - Introduction

The Basel Framework - also called the Basel Accord or Basel Standards - is the full set of standards of the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision (BCBS), which is the primary global standard setter for the prudential regulation. The membership of the BCBS has agreed to fully implement these standards and apply them to the internationally active banks in their jurisdictions. Given the international regulatory response to the global financial crisis of 2007-08, the on-going reforms of their local banking sectors on risk management and governance, a large number of non-member governments have decided to also implement the framework in their respective countries.
